Sri Lalitha Sahasranama is considered to be one of the most sacred and complete Stotra (sacred Hindu text) for the worship of Goddess Lalita. Lalita Devi is the Goddess of Bliss, an epithet for Goddess Parvathi, the Mother Divine. "Lalita" in Sanskrit means "spontaneous".
Sri Lalitha Sahasranama was composed by 8 Vaag Devis upon the command of Devi Sri Lalitha. The 8 Vaag Devis are - Vasini, Kameshwari, Aruna, Vimala, Jayinee, Modhinee, Sarveshwari, Koulini. It’s a belief that "One can worship Godess Lalitha only if she wishes us to do so". The shlokas are organized in such a way that Lalitha Devi is described from "Head to Feet". The shlokas are organised based on the Pancha Krithyam (5 works). They are, Creation (Shrishti), Protection (Sthithi), Destruction (Samharam), Hiding (Thirodhanam) and Blessing (Anugraham).
